De die Natali Domini*
(with English translation)
Numen, fuisti parvulus et neci
mitti clues tu, praestet ut unica
nunc caritas divina semper
motibus omnibus adsident qui
menti furenti turbidae et invidae
mortalium! Nos valle vagos iuva
nunc debiles tristi morantes
fletibus ac lacrimis referta
Quam quod probetur consilium DEI
absurdius quis dixerit. At fides
innixa parvo qui beatos
nos pueros agat atque puros!
Carus puellus, frigore languidus,
Nunc est fovendus. Cordibus omnibus
Sacer manebis. Nunc benigne
Respice quot venerentur et te!
O God, you were a child and it is reputed that you face death so that Divine Charity prevails over the feelings, which besiege our turbid mind of mortals. Comfort us, we who live wandering in this valley full of sadness! God’s plan seems too absurd to be plausible, but Faith is founded on a child, who can make us happier and simpler. The dear child suffering from the cold must now be warmed up. You will remain in everyone’s hearts. Protect those who venerate you throughout the world!
